Incredibly Good News - Titus 3:5

Titus 3:5 (ESV)

he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,

That is the gospel. It is Good News that goes cross-grain to everything the world teaches. For some the world teaches them to be independent, to make their own way, to work hard and take responsibility for tomorrow, to rely on no one but self. For others the world teaches that they deserve everything they have. They deserve to eat what they want to eat when they want to eat it. They deserve to enjoy any passion they experience, have anything they want, do anything they desire. It is their right. But the Good News is not something we deserve, nor is it something we can earn. Salvation is an act of mercy on God’s part and nothing on ours. The Good News is that we are saved, washed clean, made new, and in a process of renewal all by the mercy of a just and holy God. It is cross-grain to every culture and every generation, but it is incredibly good news. On our part it only takes faith. We do not deserve it. We cannot earn it. But we can receive it through simple faith. It makes no sense from the world’s perspective. It makes perfect sense through the lens of God’s mercy. Have you trusted him for salvation based solely on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ? It is hard to wrap our heads around, but it is incredibly good news.
