Thanksgiving - Malachi 1:11

Malachi 1:11 (ESV)

For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering. For my name will be great among the nations, says the LORD of hosts.

Today is Thanksgiving Day in the U.S.A. It is a day set apart to give thanks, but to whom are we to give thanks. I have noticed a trend in recent year that it has become a day to give thanks to one another. That’s not what our early presidents had in mind when they called for a day of thanksgiving. But when the truth of a sovereign God who is the source of all that we have is rejected, you have no one left to thank but yourself and those around you. There is coming a day, however, when not just our country, but the whole earth will recognize God. In every place, or from every place offerings will be brought honoring God. His “name will be great among the nations.” As believers in Jesus Christ, may we give thanks to our God not only for what he has blessed us with, but in anticipation of what will some day be. We are a people of expectation and hope.
