A People of Hope - Malachi 4:1

Malachi 4:1 (ESV)

“For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming shall set them ablaze, says the LORD of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.”

The day is coming. This is why believers in Jesus Christ are called people of hope. Whatever the world throws at us, whatever the Enemy does, we know that there is coming a day. It is a day when all things will be set right. It is a day when those who have stomped on truth will be stomped on. It is a day when those who have been trampled because of their faith “will go out leaping like calves from the stall” (vs 2). It is a day of joy and blessing for believers and a day, for unbelievers, of judgment; a day when God shall “tread down the wicked” (vs 3). This is not a day that we bring about through violence. It is not a call for an uprising. It is a call for faith. It is a call to trust God because he will one day set all things right. Our Christmas celebration is not a celebration because we are able to get all the presents and gifts we want. It is a celebration of hope and faith. It is not a celebration because life is easy. For many, life is hard. But Christmas is a celebration based on a fulfilled promised and a promise to be fulfilled. We celebrate the savior who came, who is also the king who is coming. Whatever life throws at you, we can celebrate because we believers in Jesus Christ are a people of hope.
