Mark 6:34 - Jesus is Sufficient

Mark 6:34

“When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.”

God gives rest to the weary. God uses small things to accomplish great things. God equips and empowers to do whatever he commands us to do. But like the disciples, we often fail to understand. We keep striving to accomplish under our own power. We get frustrated. We fail to succeed. We assume it’s because we are insignificant, we are weak, we are small. But what our failure is intended to do is point us to Christ. We are insignificant. We are weak. We are small, but Jesus uses insignificant, weak, small things to bring glory to his name not ours.

Jesus had compassion on the crowds because he saw their brokenness. They were like sheep without a shepherd. We often fail to have compassion on the crowds because what we see is our own brokenness, our own inability, our own insufficiency. We don’t see any way that we have the capacity to meet their needs. What we fail to see is his sufficiency. The miracle of feeding the 5000 was never about the bread and the fish. It was about the one in whose hands they were placed. He is always sufficient.
