Luke 22:3 - What do we Value?

Luke 22:3 (ESV)

[3] Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve.

“Satan entered Judas.” But this wasn’t something that just happened suddenly, unexpectedly, and without warning. It’s not like Satan was just wandering around looking for someone to use and happened upon Judas. John 12 tells us that Judas was a thief stealing from the common purse for his own personal use. Jesus had been teaching and telling parables over and over indicating the dangers of wealth. He instructed the rich young ruler to sell all he had. Zacchaeus promised to give back all he had unethically taken, with interest. Jesus commended the poor widow for giving her two small coins and criticized the wealthy for their showy contributions. All of that must have provoked Judas. His own greed and self-centeredness opened him to Satan’s influence.

Which raises a question for us. What do we value? What do I value? Do my values open me up to the influence of the Spirit of God, or to the Enemy? The choices I make each day, each hour either quench the Spirit and cause my heart to be colder and harder, or they soften my heart and help me hear the Spirit’s gentle voice. What do I value?
